Tehran says the strait could reopen within a week, but only after Washington makes concessions. The proposal’s full text is unpublished, and the US response is disputed.

That history makes the seven-day timetable less a guarantee than a test of whether the two sides can agree on who controls passage. Iran wants the blockade eased before wider talks; Washington wants the strait open and Iran’s nuclear programme addressed. The proposal appears to defer that dispute, not resolve it.

The stakes reach well beyond Tehran and Washington: the strait is a major route for global oil and gas shipments. For now, there is no public evidence that the US has formally rejected the proposal—or that the other parties to the conflict would accept its terms.5
