The Type 01 is the first production Jaguar on the company’s dedicated electric vehicle platform. JLR says it will be assembled at Solihull, with electric drive units and battery packs made in Wolverhampton and pressed body panels produced in Halewood, Merseyside. Those are the company’s plans for a UK manufacturing chain, not proof that production or supplier work has begun. 1

JLR says customers should be able to order the car in early 2027, with first deliveries expected in the second half of the year. It lists a usable 118 kilowatt-hour battery and a range of up to 450 miles under the European WLTP test cycle. Those figures remain estimates ahead of full certification tests, rather than final homologated specifications. 2

The price is pitched at the luxury end of the market: JLR says the car will start at £130,000. Autocar’s launch report, however, puts the starting price at £120,000 and says well-equipped versions will be around £150,000. The reported size is similarly striking: The Guardian says the car is more than 5.2 metres long and two metres wide. 3

Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover told the Guardian the intended buyers are affluent and highly interested in design and technology. That puts the Type 01 at the centre of a costly effort to reposition Jaguar, rather than a return to selling cars at mass-market scale. 4

JLR says nearly 9,000 employees at Solihull have been retrained to build electric vehicles and that its wider West Midlands supplier network sustains 60,000 jobs. Those figures describe the company’s workforce and supplier network, not jobs attributable to the Type 01. The Guardian also reported that JLR recently announced 4,000 job cuts over two years, with programme staff among those offered voluntary redundancy. 5
